Welcome Cagney & Lacey Star, Tyne Daley, to the Sarasota Film Festival

Tyne Daly is coming to the 2019 Sarasota Film Festival! She has won both Emmy© and Tony© Awards for her work and performed in many shows; Cagney & Lacey, Judging Amy, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs. Daly will be participating in a Q&A following the screening of her new film A BREAD FACTORY, about a small town facing big changes on Saturday, April 6th at 12:30PM with the film’s director Patrick Wang.

 

 

“We look forward to welcoming the wonderful talent of Tyne Daly to the Sarasota Film Festival community as we celebrate our 21st anniversary,” said Mark Famiglio, Chairman and President of the Sarasota Film Festival.

The Festival is also happy to announce two new films: BEFORE YOU KNOW IT, starring Hannah Pearl Utt, Jen Tuollock, Judith Light, Mandy Patinkin, Mike Colter, and Alec Baldwin, about a pair of sisters learning their mother is alive and acting on a soap opera will screen on Monday, April 8th at 6:30PM at the Regal Hollywood and OLYMPIC DREAMS, starring Nick Kroll and Alexi Pappas, about the bond between a young Olympian (Pappas) and a volunteer doctor (Kroll) will screen on Saturday, April 6th at 5:30PM at the Regal Hollywood 11.

And, one more announcement! SFF Education and the buildOn Foundation are partnering to present a special screening of the new Netflix film THE BOY WHO HARNESSED THE WIND, about a thirteen year old boy in Malawi who invents an unconventional way to save his family and village from famine, based on the true story of William Kamkwamba. Academy Award©-nominated actor Chiwetel Ejiofor stars in this film, which is also his directorial debut. The screening will take place Sunday, April 7th at 10:00AM at the Regal Hollywood.

“Our local audiences will greatly enjoy the new additions to this year’s programming, ‘Before You Know It,’ ‘Olympic Dreams,’ and ‘The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind’ all of which bring great variety to the 2019 lineup,” said Famiglio.

SFF Education partnered with the buildOn Foundation to engage local students in impactful community service, helping raise funds to build a school in Malawi, Africa. Following the screening, SFF will host a panel featuring past buildOn participants who worked to break the cycle of poverty and illiteracy for students in impoverished countries. The panelists will speak about their powerful experiences and show videos.
